Overall, there were 96 legs as we know a cat has 4 legs so, 96/4=24 so there were 24 cats and 24 girls

Given:

Total number of legs = 96

To find:

The number of girls

Calculation:

Let the number of girls in the party be ‘g’ and the number of cats be ‘c’. From the data it is clear that number of girls and cats are equal

=> g = c

Each girl will have two legs and each cat will have four legs

=> Total number of legs = 96

    2g+4c = 96

    2g+4g = 96         [As g=c]

    6g = 96

    g = 16

\boxed{Number\ of\ girls\ in\ the\ party=16}
