A group of parrots are present in a small forest along with a group of deer. If there are total 12 heads and 40 legs, how many deer and parrots are there in the forest respectively?​

Answer:

The number of legs is shown by the equation 2B + 4F = 100. Substituting 60 - 2F for the 2B in this equation gives 60 - 2F + 4F = 100; 60 +2F = 100; 2F = 40; F = 20.

Substituting F = 20 into the first equation, B + F = 30, B + 20 = 30; B = 10.

So there are 10 Birds and 20 four legged animals, although there could also be 50 sponges.

Let the number of parrots be x and

number of Deer be y

x + y = 12 ..(1)

2x + 4 y = 40 …(2)

Multiplying (1) by 2 and then substracting the same from (2) we get

2 y = 16

y = 8

Putting the value of y in (1) above we get

x = 4

Number of parrots 4 and number of deer 8
