Given  :  A group of researchers are visiting a national park for a survey on tigers in the region.

Prior knowledge of the region has informed the researchers that there is only a 20% chance of sighting a tiger during any exploration in the national park.

To Find : the probability that the first sighting of a tiger happens in the third time that they explore their area of study

Solution:

P ( seeing tiger) = 20 % = 0.2

P ( not seeing tiger ) = 1 - 0.2 = 0.8

first sighting of a tiger happens in the third time

= (0.8)(0.8)(0.2)

= 0.128

= 12.8 %

e probability that the first sighting of a tiger happens in the third time that they explore their area of study = 12.8 %
