A.the nucleus of heavy atoms like uranium or thorium when bombarded with low energy neutrons can be split into lighter nuclei. When this is done a tremendous amount of energy is released. This energy released is capable of producing 10 million times the energy produced by combustion of coal.
B. Problem of storage and disposal of spent fuels - the uranium can still decay into harmful particles ( radiations ) . This finally leads to environmental contamination.
