let the mass of the bullet and the mass of the gun be m1 and m2 respectively.
let the velocities of bullet and gun be v1 and v2 respectively

According to the law of conservation of momentum -
m1v1 = m2v2
⇒ 1/2 *m2 v2^{2} = 1/2 *m1*v1*v2   ( multiplying both sides by 1/2   and v2)
⇒ Kinetic energy of gun = 1/2*m1*v1*v2
