Question :-

A gun of mass 4.5kg,fires a bullet of mass 20g with a velocity 108km/hr. Calculate recoil velocity of the gun.

GIVEN :----

Mass of bullet m1 = 20 g

= 20 / 1000 = 0.02 kg

mass of gun m2 = 4.5 kg

velocity of bullet v1 = 108 km / h

= 108× 1000/ 3600 = 30 m/s

TO FIND :-

Velocity of gun v2 = ?

according to the formula,

( -m1v1) = m2V2

V2 = (-m1v1) / m2

= (-0.02×30) / 4.5

= (-0.6) / 4.5

= 0.13333

velocity of bullet (V2) = 0.13333 m / s

Answer:

The ans should be 0.133 m/sec

by using the formula

V=-vm/M, where V =is the velocity of gun, v=velocity of bullet, m=mass of bullet, M=mass of gun

V=-0.02×30/4.5

V=-0.133 m/sec
