Momentum of the gun = m × v

                                     = 500 g * x m/s

                                     = 1/2 kg * x m/s

                                     = 1/2 x kg m/s

Momentum of the bullet = m * v

                                        = 30 g * 100 m/s

                                        =0.03 kg * 100 m/s

                                        = 3 kg m/s

                    Momentum of bullet = Momentum of gun

Mass of bullet * Velocity of bullet = Mass of gun * Recoil velocity of gun

           30 g ( 0.03 kg ) * 100 m/s  =  500 g ( 1/2 kg ) * x m/s

                                       3 kg m/s  =  1/2 x kg m/s

                                           3 * 2/1   = x

                                                   6   = x

Hence the recoil velocity of the gun is 6 m/s.
