A guy wire attached to a vertical pole of height 18 m is 24 m long.

We have to find : How far from the base of pole should the stake be driven so that the wire will be taut.

Here,

Let, AB be the height of vertical pole.

AC be a wire.

In ΔABC, By using pythagoras theorem we get, :-

( Hypotenuse )² = ( Height )² + ( Base )²

AC² = AB² + CB²AC²=AB²+CB²

\sf \pink {24² = 18² + CB²}24²=18²+CB²

\tt \red {576 = 324 + CB^{2} }576=324+CB

2

\bf \red {576 - 324 = CB²}576−324=CB²

\rm \green {252 = CB²}252=CB²

\mathcal\red {6√7m = CB}6√7m=CB

HENCE, THE STAKE MAY BE PLACED AT A DISTANCE CB = 6√7m, FROM THE BASE OF THE POLE
