Answer:

Refer to the attachment for diagram.

According to the Question:

Height of Vertical Pole ( AB ) = 18 m

Length of wire ( AC ) = 24 m

We must find the Distance from the pole and the stack ( BC )

So we know that ole is perpendicular to the Ground. Hence applying Pythagoras Theorem, we get,

⇒ AB² + BC² = AC²

⇒ BC² = AC² - AB²

⇒ BC² = 24² - 18²

⇒ BC² = 576 - 324

⇒ BC² = 252

⇒ BC = √252 = √ ( 36 × 7 )

⇒ BC = 6√7 m

Hence the distance from the pole to the stack is 6√7 m.

Let AB be height of the pole and AC be the length of the guy wire

In ∆ABC angle B =90°

By Pythagoras theorem

AC^2=AB^2+BC^2

BC^2=AC^2-AB^2

=24^2-18^2

=576-324

=252

BC=√252

BC=6√7 m

Thus,stake must be driven 6√7m long
