A hammer of mass 400g.moving at 30ms-1 strikes a nail. I nail stops the hammer in a very short time of o.01s. What force of nail on the hammer

F= rate of change of momentum
= m(v-u)/t
=0.4(30-0)/0.1
=120newton

Given,

Initial velocity = 0

Final velocity = 30 m/s^-1

Time taken = 0.01 seconds

Acceleration = v-u/t

= 30-0/0.01

= 30/0.01

= 3000m/s^2

Force = Mass ×acceleration

= 0.4 × 3000

= 1200N
