The average impact force is 3000 N and with this force the nail penetrates upto 2.5 cm in one striking

Answer:

3000 N

Explanation:

Given that,

Velocity of the hammer is 10 m/sec.

Mass of the hammer is 1.5 kg.

and it is said that the hammer acts on it for 0.005 sec.

so, the retardation of the hammer after hammering the nail = (v-u)/t

                                                                                                   => (0-10)/0.005

                                                                                                   => 2000 m/sec^2

force = mass * acceleration

     F = 1.5 kg * 2000 m/sec^2

       = 3000 N
