A hammer weighing 2.5kg moving with a speed of 1m/s strikes the head of the nail driving it 10cm into the wall. The acceleration during impact and the impulse imparted to wall will be respectively. Option A)-5m/s2,2.5N so. B)-10m/s2,5N so. C)-7.5m/s2,3.5N s. D)-6m/s2,4N s.

we know the formula,

v2 = u2 + 2as

10 cm = 0.1 m

02 = 12 + 2*a * 0.1

- 1 = 0.2 * a

-1 / 0.2 = a

a = - 5 m / s2

Impulse = Change in momentum

= m(v - u)

= 2.5 kg ( 0 - 1)

= - 2.5 kg m /s

Acceleration : - 5 m /. s2

Impulse = - 2.5 kg m / s

Option (A) is the answer.

Hope it's useful.

And all the best

aqibshaikh: and v is final velocity that is zero
chiragverma: OK Sir thanks
aqibshaikh: coz at the time of impact final velocity will be zero
aqibshaikh: answer is perfect dont worry
aqibshaikh: anythingelse u wanna ask?
chiragverma: thank you very much sir
chiragverma: I am doing preparation for Olympiad second round exam
aqibshaikh: all the best
chiragverma: thanks
chiragverma: good night
