Given:

Efficiency of the heat energy operated between T₁ and T₂ = 1/4

To Find:

Efficiency of the engine

Explanation:

η = 1 - (T₂/T₁)

1/4 = 1 - (T₂/T₁)

T₂/T₁ = 1- (1/4)

T₂/T₁ = (4-1)/4

       = 3/4

Now for efficiency of engine

η' = 1 - (T₂/ 2T₁)

η'    = 1 - [(T₂/ T₁)(1/2)]

η'   = 1 - [3/4 (1/2)]

η'   = 1 - 3/8

η'    = (8-3)/8

η'  = 5/8

Answer- the efficiency of engine is 5/8
