Given:

A heater boils 1 kg of water in time t1 and another heater boils the same water in time t2.

To find:

If both the  heaters are connected in parallel , the combination will boil the water in time

Solution:

From given, we have,

A heater boils 1 kg of water in time t1 and another heater boils the same water in time t2.

We use the below formula to calculate the time,

P = Q/t .....(1)

The time taken by boiler 1 = t₁

⇒ P₁ = Q/t₁

The time taken by boiler 2 = t₂

⇒ P₂ =Q/t₂

If the boilers are connected in parallel, then we have,

P = P₁ + P₂

P = Q/t₁ + Q/t₂

P = Q (1/t₁ + 1/t₂)

P = Q (t₁ + t₂/t₁t₂) ......(2)

comparing equations (1) and (2), we get,

t = t₁t₂/(t₁ + t₂)

The combination will boil the water in time is t₁t₂/(t₁ + t₂)
