Solution:
- When lighter and heavier balls are kept in a moving train the balls are habituated for the train's velocity.
When the train suddenly stops the balls keeps on moving as they are in motion when the train is moving.
So, when the brakes are applied the balls will move in the forward direction due to the inertia of motion.
- As the force applied is the same for both balls, the lighter ball attains more velocity as acceleration is inversely proportional to mass.
- (F = ma)
Note:
Friction is also the same for both balls as the train's surface is the same.
Final answer:
The light tennis ball will attain a higher velocity.
