We know that if a body is dropped from another body moving vertically upwards,the velocity of the body = velocity of other body

there fore,

initial velocity,u = 8 m/s

height ,h = 12m

g = 10m/s

we know that ,

time \: of \: descent =  \sqrt{ \frac{2h}{g} }

 =  \sqrt{ \frac{24}{10} }

 = 1.54s
