A hemisphere is cut out from one face of a cubical wooden block such that the diameter of the hemisphere is equal to the length of the cube. Determine the surface area of the remaining
solid.​

Diameter of hemisphere = side of cube = 2 r

⇢ then, radius of hemisphere = r

so,

S.A. of remaining solid will be

= (TSA of cube) - (base area of hemisphere) + (CSA of hemisphere)

= 6 (side)² - π (radius)² + 2 π (radius)²

= 6 ( 2 r )² - π r² + 2 π r²

= 6 ( 4 r² ) + π r²

= 24 r² + π r²

= r² ( 24 + π ) sq. units
