Given:-

  • A hemispherical bowl is made of steel 0.25 cm thick. The inside radius of the bowl is 5 cm.

To find:-

  • Find the volume of steel used in making the bowl.

Solutions:-

  • Inner radius of the bowl (r) = 5cm.
  • Thickness of the iron sheet = 0.25cm.

So,

The outer radius of the tank (R) = Inner radius + thickness of the sheet

=> 5 + 0.25

=> 5.25

Now,

The volume of a hemispherical shell.

Volume of a hemispherical shell => 2/3 π(R³ - r³)

=> 2/3 × 22/7 × [(5.25)² - (5)²]

=> 2 × 22 × [144.70 - 125]/21

=> 44 × 19.7 /32

=> 41.28cm³

Hence, the volume of the iron used to the tank is 41.28cm³.

Some Important:-

  • The surface area of a sphere = 4πr²
  • The curved surface area of hemisphere = 2πr²
  • The total surface area of hemisphere = 3πr²
  • The volume of the sphere = 4/3 πr²
  • The volume of the hemisphere = 2/3 πr²
