A hemispherical glass bowl of
radius 4 cm (uglass = 1.4) is
placed in a liquid (ulia = 1.2).
An object is then placed 10 cm
away from the convex surface.
Find its magnification.

The magnification of convex mirror is 1/10

Explanation:

The radius of curvature = 1/f

4 cm = 1/f

∴ f = Focal length = 1/4 cm

Now, on using mirror's law, we get,

1/f = 1/v + 1/u

On substituting the values, we get,

4 = 1/v + 1/10

1/v = 4 - 1/10

1/v = (40 - 1)/10

1/v = 39/10

∴ v = 10/39 cm

Now, the magnification is given by the formula:

m = -v/u

On substituting the values, we get,

m = -(10/39)/10

∴ m = -1/10
