Answer:

When the high jumper falls on a soft landing site, then jumper takes a longer time to come to a stop. The rate of change of momentum of athlete is less due to which smaller stopping force acts on the athlete. Thus cushion or sand being soft, reduces the athlete's momentum more gently

Explanation:

Acceleration refers to the change in velocity with respect to time.

According to the question, Initial velocity (u) is 3 km/hr, Final Velocity (v) is 6 km/hr and time taken for change is 5 seconds. Hence the acceleration of the object is:

\begin{gathered}\implies a = \dfrac{v-u}{t}\\\\\\\implies a = \dfrac{6 - 3}{5}\\\\\\\implies a = \dfrac{3}{5} = \boxed{\bf{0.6 \:\:m/s^2}}\end{gathered}

⟹a=

t

v−u

⟹a=

5

6−3

⟹a=

5

3

=

0.6m/s

Also, we are given that the force applied on the object is 5 dyne, where 1 dyne is equal to 10⁵ N. Hence the force of 5 dyne in terms of Newton is:

⇒ F = 5 × 10⁵ N

We know that, Force = Mass × Acceleration. Hence the value of mass in terms of Force and Acceleration is given as:

⇒ Mass = Force / Acceleration

⇒ Mass = ( 5 × 10⁵ ) / 0.6

⇒ Mass = 8.3 × 10⁵ kg

Hence the mass of the object is 8.3 × 10⁵ kg
