A hiker walked for two days. On the second day the hiker walked 2 hours longer and at an average speed mile per hour faster than he walked on the first day. If during the two days he walked a total of 64 miles and spent a total of 18 hours walking, what was his average speed on the first day?

Let say first day he walked for H hrs

Next day he walked for H + 2 Hrs

H + H + 2 = 18

=> 2H = 16

=> H = 8

First day he walked for 8 hrs

Next day he walked = 10 hrs

Let say first day his average speed was  = S  Miles per hr

Next day his average speed was   = S + 1 Miles per hr

Total distance covered

8S + 10(S+1) = 64

=> 18S = 54

=> S = 3

First day average speed was = 3 miles per hour
