A hockey ball at rest, is hit by a hockey stick, such that the force acts on the ball for 0.08 s. If the ball is of mass 100 g and covers a distance of 80 m in 1.6 s, find the magnitude of force.

Answer:

Explanation:

initial velocity of ball, u= 0 m/s(since the ball is at rest)

distance travelled , s= 80 m

t=1.6 seconds

velocity of ball after it was hit=distance/time

=80/1.6

=50 m/s

applying 1st equation of motion

a=v-u/t

a=50/0.08

a=5000/8

a=625m/s^2

force=mass x acceleration

force=0.1 x 625

force=62.5 Newton
