Given info : A hole is made at the bottom of the tank filled with water. The total pressure at the bottom of tank is 1.5 atm.

To find : The velocity of efflux is ...

solution : pressure at the surface of tank is equal to atmospheric pressure

so, P₁ = 1atm = 10⁵ N/m²

pressure at the bottom of the tank , P₂ = 1.5 atm = 1.5 × 10⁵ N/m²

so height of hole is made in the tank, h = (P₂ - P₁)/ρg

= (1.5 × 10⁵ N/m² - 10⁵ N/m²)/(1000 kg/m³ × 9.8 m/s²)

= (50)/(9.8) ....(1)

now velocity of efflux, v = √(2gh)

= √(2 × 9.8 × 50/9.8) [ from eq (1). ]

= 10 m/s

Therefore the velocity of efflux is 10 m/s.
