A hollow metal cylinder of lateral surface area 4928 cm2 is cut along its height to form a
rectangular sheet of width 8 cm. Find the length of the rectangular sheet.

lateral surface area of a cylinder = 4928

2 pie rh = 4928

2×22/7×r×8=4928

352/7×r=4928

r=4928×7/352

r=7/14

r=1/2

length of rectangular sheet

=2 pie r

=2×22/7×1/2

=2×44/7

=88/7

=12.571

The circumference of its base (or top) = width of rectangular sheet

i.e. 2πR = 8cm ..... (1.)

°.° Curved Surface Area of a Cylinder = 2πRh

Given 2πRh = 4928h = 4928 / 2πR = (4928/8)cm = 616 cm ...... From(1.)

The length of the sheet will be the height.

So the length of the rectangular sheet is 616 cm...
