total cost of both cart and the horse= Rs.1600
let the cost of the horse be x.
cost of the cart = 1/3 of x = x/3

a/q            x/3 + x = 1600
              ⇒  x+3x/3 = 1600
              ⇒  4x/3  = 1600
              ⇒  x = 1600 × 3 / 4
              ∴  x = 1200

so, the cost of te horse is Rs.1200
and cost of cart is 1/3 of x = 1/3 of 1200 = Rs. 400

Let the cost of Horse be x
Then cost of cart is 1/3 ×x=x/3
Given cost of cart and horse together is र.1600/-
x+x/3=1600
(3x+x)/3=1600
4x=1600×3
x=400×3
x=1200
x/3=1200/3=400

Therefore cost of Horse is र.1200/-
And cost of cart is र.400/-
