Originally Answered: A particle is moving in a circular path of radius R. What would the displacement after half a circle be?
Displacement is shortest distance between starting point and end point.
Distance is path length covered by particle.
When particle moves along half circle, it covers half the circumference therefore distance covered is (2×pi×r)/2 = pi× r. Where r is radius of circle.
When particle covers half the circle, it is diametrically opposite to the starting point of its motion.
Therefore shortest distance is equal to diameter of circle or 2× r is a displacement.
Hence displacement is equal to diameter or 2 times the radius of circle.
Hope this will clear the concept.
