a hot air balloon m,is 900 metres vertically above a point n on the ground.a boy stands at a point o,1200 metres horizontally from n.calculate the distance om,of the boy from the saloon.

In triangle MNO,

By Pythagoras' Theorem,

  {om}^{2}  =  {mn}^{2}  +  {on}^{2}

Now, substituting the values, we get,

 {om}^{2}  =  {900}^{2}  +  {1200}^{2}

 {om}^{2}  = 810000 + 1440000

 {om }^{2}  = 2250000

om =  \sqrt{2250000}

om=1500m

Therefore, the distance of the boy from the balloon is 1500m.
