Very Good Question !

A hot liquid can be cooled down by pouring it into a bigger vessel having wide mouth because of rate of evaporation increases with increase in surface area.

Reason :

Evaporation is the process where liquid will convert into gas below its boiling point .

Evaporation is a cooling process

Factors effecting Evaporation are :

  1. Surface area
  2. Wind speed
  3. Temperature
  4. Humidity                                                                                                                        So, when hot liquid is poured over wide mouth vessel, rate of evaporation increases as area exposed is more.

It is a well-known fact that a hot liquid can be cooled down by pouring it into a bigger vessel having wide mouth.

It is due to the below mentioned reason.

When an extremely hot liquid is hugely pouted into a large vessel having wider mouth, then the surface area will increases.

And, hence the evaporation rate increases.

Moreover, it cools very quickly.
