Teenage is a rebellious phase of a child’s life. At this time, children not only grow but also find difficulties in daily routines or for that matter the changes taking place in their life invariably. This story starts with when the narrator, a young school boy, leaves his junior school for a new high school. He loves his previous school so much that he hates attending his new school. He misses friends and teachers from there. Because of this change, he is upset with himself and thinks that he is a misfit in the new school.

One day while doing homework, he notices wisps of smoke coming out of the ceiling. Before his mother and he can understand anything untoward, the home gets into the clutches of fire. The boy runs out calling for help. His mother comes out of the home with a metal box which consists of family photographs and other mementos of his late father. The fire spreads, the house is on the verge of destruction. His mother goes inside the home once again. When the boy sees that, he charges to run inside for his mother. Well, a fireman catches him and doesn’t allow him to move from his spot. The house is on fire completely. Firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire. Seeing the intense fire, the boy sadly thinks that his mother and cat are lost in the fire. Well, after five hours tussle, firefighters come out with his mother unscathed.

They spend the night at their grandparents’ home. Next morning the boy goes at school in old clothes and in burrowed shoes. Next, they borrow money from grandparents and rent a house in the neighborhood. At school, the news of the fire concerns the pupil and teachers. To help the boy, many students collect and donate various commodities, like clothes and shoes, etc. Seeing this help, the boy’s heart thwarts towards his new school. He finds them amiable, not hostile, and he feels happy.

Though he partially happy that his life is coming back on the track but he is worried about the lost cat. And then one day a woman comes to him with a cat possibly that belongs to him. Yes, it was his cat. Upon finding his lost cat, the boy feels on the seventh heaven and thanks her for the help.

So, overall the story sees a positive end. Adjusting to new atmosphere in different aspects of life is a skill above anything else. The story is based on real incident that once occurred to the writer.
