A household has a 100W lamp lighted for 2 hours two 60W lamps lighted for 4 hours and an electric fan of 50W working for 8 hours a day . Calculate the electric units consumed each day.

Power used by lamp = 0.1 ×2=0.2kwh = 0.2 units
Power used by other 2 lamps = 0.06×4×2 = 0.48 kwh = 0.48 units
Power used by fan = 0.05 × 8 = 0.4 kwh = 0.4 units
Thus
Total electric units consumed in a day = 0.2 + 0.48 + 0.4 = 1.08units

1st Lamp=100w=0.1kwh (1kwh=1000w)
Power consumed= 0.1 × 2= 0.2kwh

2nd Lamp =60w=0.060kw
For 2 such lamps=2×0.060=0.120kw
Power consumed for 4 hrs=0.120×4= 0.48 kwh

Fan=50w=0.05kw
Power consumed for 8 hrs=0.05×8= 0.40 kwh

Total power = 0.20+0.48+0.40 = 1.08kwh

Therefore 1.08kwh units of current is used per day.

NOTE: kwh is used,since kwh is the commercial unit of current.
