Mycorrhizae act as biofertilizers because it is present in the roots of higher plants which absorb phosphorus for the plant and increases plant growth. Mycorrhizae is a fungus which makes symbiotic association with higher plants in the roots. Plant provides shelter and food for Mycorrhizae and in return Mycorrhizae absorbed water and nutrients for the plant. It also helps in the resistance to root-borne pathogens and provides tolerance to salinity and drought.
