A wire-wound coil forms a magnetic field in an electromagnet, whereas, the material with which a magnet is created determines the strength of a permanent magnet.

Explanation:

(a) An electromagnet, the electric current passed through the coil determines its magnetic strength. Also, the four types of permanent magnets available are ceramic magnet, flexible magnet and samarium cobalt magnet and neodymium iron boron magnet.

(b) Electric bells and Electric motors are the devices which use an electromagnet, whereas, refrigerator doors and toys use permanent magnets.
