Grandmother of Khushwant Singh is a lady of her own ethics. When parents of Khushwant migrated to city in seek of money, she stayed behind  in village, taking care of her grandson Khushwant and her own. She used to go to temple everyday with a bunch of Stale Chappatis, which were distributed to dogs on the way to home after temple.

Soon after, parents called them in city, after which, grandmother was not able to attend temple anymore. now she used to spend her day by spinning the charkha, and with sparrows. She used to throw bread crumbs to sparrows which come regularly in seek of food. that half-an-hour of grandmother used to be the happiest part of her day.

Hence in these, Grandmother of Khushwant showed her concern towards birds and dogs
