Explanation:

India possess a large variety of flora and fauna due to latitude, altitude and climatic position along with other relief features like mountains, plains, deserts and coastal regions.

Latitude-The tropic of cancer passes through India almost dividing it into two halfs. That means the southern half lies in the tropical zone and the northern half in the temperate zone. Due to this there is a major difference in the flora and fauna found in these two areas with respect to temperature, amount of sunlight and water availability.

Altitude- India has a major altitude difference. The northern end is surrounded by the himalayas and the southern peninsular with coastal plains. Because of the himalayas having higher altitude, the type of flora and fauna seen here is different from the low altitude coastal plains.

Climate- Climate is also an important factor that is responsible for the large variety of flora and fauna in India. The animals and plants found in the himalyans have thick skin that helps them live in the cold, whereas the animals and plants in deserts have features that help them adapt to the climate their.

Relief features - India is known as a sub-continent because it has almost all types of lanforms that can support many variety of animal and plant life. The mountain which has montane vegetation and animals with fur, the desert with scrubs and cactus plants along with camels, the plains which has many types of crops and a huge variety of animals, these all play an important role in knowing the variety of life forms in the Indian sub-continent.

Hope It Helps.
