A hunter directs his uncalibrated rifle towards a monkey sitting on a tree, at a height h above the ground and the distance d. The instant the monkey observes the flash of the fire of the rifle, it drops from the tree. Will the bullet hit the monkey?

According to the question yes, the monkey will die since the monkey which was at the tree was at the same horizontal level as that of the hunter.

This, will occur because when the bullet was fired the monkey was at the same horizontal level as that of the hunter so there will be 0 downward velocity which is also same for the monkey now since both the bullet and the monkey will travel same distance in the downward direction hence the monkey will definitely die.

Since, the vertical direction of both the objects are same so the bullet will hit the object. We know that the distance s = 1/2gt^2.
