Answer:

40

say ten year age if husband was 5X , and wife 4X

so now ( 5x + 10) - ( 4x+10) = 6

x =6

Husband present age is 5x6+10= 40 , wife 34

Question:

A husband's age exceeds that of his wife by 6 years, 10 years ago, the ration of their ages was 5.4. Find the present age of the husband?

To find:

Present age of the husband

Answer:

The present age of the husband is 40 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Husband's age exceeds that of his wife by 6 years

Let,

Wife's age will be x

Husband's age will be x+6

Then,

Wife's age = x-10

Husband's age = x+6-10

                         = x-4

The ratio of their ages was 5:4

⇒x-4/x-10=5/4

⇒4x-16=5x-50

⇒5x-4x=50-16

x=34       [age of wife]

Here,

The age of wife = x=34 years

Then, the age of husband = x+6= 40 years

The husband's age is 40 years because, we found that the age of wife is 34 years, in the question question we know that the husband's age exceeds that of his wife by 6 years then the present age of wife is 34 years here, the age of wife + 6 years ⇒34+6=40 years.

So, the age of husband is "40 years"
