A hydraulic lift has been constructed to lift vehicles of maximum 3000kg
weight. The area of crosssection of the piston's platform on which the
vehicles are lifted is 580sq cm. Calculate the maximum pressure
experienced on the small piston.

Answer:

Explanation:

It is given that,

The maximum weight of vehicle that can be lifted, m = 3000 kg

The area of crosssection of the piston's platform on which the  vehicles are lifted = 580 sq cm. = 580 * 10⁻⁴ m²

=> Thus, the maximum force applied by the load can be calculated by the following equation:

F = mg

= 3000 * 9.8

= 29400 N

=> Now, the max pressure applied on the piston:

p = FIA

= 29400 / 580 * 10⁻⁴

= 5.069 * 10⁵ pa.

Thus,  the maximum pressure  experienced on the small piston is 5.069 * 10⁵ pa.
