Given:

The power rating of the hydropower plant = 520 MW

The actual annual generation of the plant = 3416 GWh

To find:

The plant load factor

Solution:

Given the rating of the plant = 520 MW

The theoretical maximum output of the plant is  = 520 MW

The actual power generation of the plant =  3416 GWh = 3416 x 1000 MWh

Now to convert this value to MW we will divide it by the number of hours

Actual power generation = (3416 x 1000) / 8760

Actual power generation = 389.95 MW

The plant load factor = Actual energy generated / maximum output

The plant load factor = 389.95 / 520 = 0.7499

Therefore the plant load factor will be 75%.
