A hydrocarbon x contains 87.8% carbon and 12.2% hydrogen by mass its vapour density is 41 calculate the Empirical formula of x (H 1 C12)

very easy you arrange them in order first make a column of elements. write the elements c and h. then make a column of at. mass like c=12 and h=1 then make other column of at. ratio in which you divide 87.8 /12 and 12.2/1. after dividing you will get some thing 7.then divide 7/1 and 1/1 in another column. we divived by one cause we take smallest no.then the emp. form =c7h1. then find out at. mass of this.
