A hydrocarbon Y decolourises Bromine water. On ozonolysis it gives 3 methyl butanal and
acetaldehyde. Write the name of the compound and explain the reaction using equation. ​

Answer:

As, Y decolorises bromise water it is an unsaturated hydrocarbon.

CH3CH(CH3)CH2CH=CH2+ O3→ CH3CH(CH3)CH2CHO+HCHO

4−methyl pent−1−ene                         3−methylbutanal

Hence, the above reaction clearly shows that Hydrocarbon Y is 4-methylpent-1-ene , (formula = CH3CH(CH3)CH2CH=CH2) which on ozonolysis (O3) gives 3-methyl butanal ,CH3CH(CH3)CH2CHO and acetaldehyde, (HCHO).
