a hydrogen atom in the ground state is excited by an electron beam of 12.5 eV energy. find out the maximum number of lines emitted by the atom from it's excited state​

● Answer -
3 spectral lines will be emitted by atom.

● Explanation -
# Given -
E1 = -13.6 eV
En = -13.6 + 12.1 = -1.5 eV

# Solution -
To calculate n,
En = E1 / n^2
-1.5 = -13.6 / n^2
n^2 = 13.6/1.5
n^2 = 9
n = 3

For transition of electron from ground state to 3rd orbit
∆n = 3-1 = 2

Maximum number of lines emitted by atom -
N = Σ∆n = Σ2 = 1 + 2 = 3
