A hydrogen atom in the ground state is excited by radiations of wavelength 975ao. How many lines will be possible in emission spectrum

Due wavelength 975 A°,

E=12.69 eV

But for second excited state, E=12.09eV

So the n=3 will be responsible for emission.

Now no. Of spectral lines =n(n-1)/2

=3(2)/2=3

Ans- 3 lines
