a) NaCl

b) salt from seawater is brown due to impurities

c) Chlorine gas is liberated

Explanation:

a) Common salt is NaCl. It is chemically called sodium chloride and can be prepared from sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid.

HCl + NaOH ----> NaCl + H2O

In common, salt is obtained from sea water by the process of evaporation.

b) Rock salt is nothing but sodium chloride obtained from the sea water. It is brown due to the impurities mixed in the water.

c) Brine is a high-concentration solution of salt in water. When electricity is passed through brine, the chloride ions lose electrons (oxidation) to form chlorine atoms and the atoms of chlorine combine to form molecules of chlorine gas.
