Given  :  In a company having 80 employees,

60 earn Rs.3.00 per hour and 20 earn Rs. 2.00 per hour

To Find :  (i) Determine the mean earnings per hour.

(ii) Do you consider this mean hourly wage to be typical?

Solution:

60 earn Rs.3.00 per hour

Earning of 60  employees per hr  = 60 * 3 = 180 Rs

20 earn Rs. 2.00 per hour

Earning of 20  employees per hr  = 20 * 2 = 40 Rs

Earning of 80  employees per hr  = 180 + 40 = 220 Rs

mean earnings per hour = 220/80  = 2.75  Rs

mean hourly wage is not typical as median or mode would be the better measure
