(a) In a D.C. Electric motor, the reversal of the current in the wire after every half revolution is repeated. That induces the coil to proceed its motion as long as it passes the current from the battery. The coil that rotates may drive a machine connected to it.

(b) The current is reversed by a commutator (split rings).
