a) In a game of 'tug of war', two teams A and B participated. Team B was pulling the rope with 30N force and team A was pulling the rope with 35N force at the same time. Finally team A won the game.
(i) What is such pair of forces called? (ii) State its one effect.
(iii) Find the resultant force acting on the rope mentioned in the paragraph.
(b) Suppose three identical holes are made in a can at different height one over the other. After closing these holes with an adhesive tape, the can is filled with water. Now the tape is pulled out and then the observation is noted down. State the property of liquid that helps you to explain your observation.

Answer:
(A)
(i) Such pair of forces are called Unbalanced forces.
(ii) The rope will remain stationary.
(iii) The resultant (net) of unbalanced forces is non-zero. In this case it is 5N (35-50).
(B)
When tapes are removed, water is seen to emerge out from all these holes with equal force. The closed figure is (nearly) a circle, with the (centre of the) can approximately at its centre. This illustrates that the liquid that the liquid pressure is transmitted equally in all directions and is he same at a given horizontal level.
Properties of liquid pressure-
- Liquid pressure, on the bottom of the container (due to weight of liquid column), does not depend on the area of the bottom.
- Liquid pressure, at any point inside the liquid, depends upon the density of the liquid and the the eight of liquid column above that point.
Hope it helps you~
