Given :-

  • In a two-digit number, the units digit is thrice the tens digit. If 36 is added to the number, the digits interchange their place.

To find :-

  • Original number

Solution :-

Let the ones digit be y then tens digit be x

  • Original number = 10x + y

According to first condition

  • Two-digit number, the units digit is thrice the tens

→ y = 3x ---(i)

According to second condition

  • 36 is added to the number, the digits interchange their place

  • Reversed number = 10y + x

→ 10x + y + 36 = 10y + x

→ 10x + y - 10y - x = - 36

→ 9x - 9y = - 36

→ 9(x - y) = - 36

→ x - y = -36/9

→ x - y = - 4 -----(ii)

Put the value of y in equation (ii)

→ x - y = - 4

→ x - 2x = - 4 (Using i)

→ - x = - 4

→ x = 4

Substitute the value of x in equation (i)

→ y = 2x

→ y = 2 × 4

→ y = 8

Therefore,

  • Tens digit = x = 4

  • Ones digit = y = 8

Hence,

  • Original number = 10x + y = 48

  • Reversed number = 10y + x = 84
