A ink-blot of area 40cm2 increases at the rate of 8 percent per second. How much larger is it after 2 seconds? Give your answer to three significant figures.

answer : 46.4 cm²

explanation : initial area of ink-pot = 40cm²

rate of increment of area = 8% /sec

area increases in 2 sec = 8%/sec × 2sec = 16 %

new area of ink-pot = area of ink-pot + 16% of area of ink+pot

= (40 + 16% of 40) cm²

= (40 + 16 × 40/100 ) cm²

= (40 + 6.4) cm²

= 46.4 cm²

hence, required answer is 46.4 cm²
