A plotter is a special kind of output device that, like a printer, produces images on paper.

A plotter is mainly used for mechanical purposes, that vary from building blueprints, to circuit diagrams and more. They are usually first done through the computer (input) and the resulted output/drawing is printed.

There are two main types of plotters. They are:

1. Flatbed Plotters

They consist of a large surface, where the paper is placed. The bar produces the required output onto it.

2. Drum Plotters

They consist of a cylindrical drum where the paper moves back and forth whilst the pens move horizontally.

Plotters are mainly used for printouts on a large-scale.
