Let A can do the work in x days.

Therefore B can do the work in 3x days.

A's one day work = 1/x

B's kne day work = 1/3x

Thus, if both A and B work together, part of work done by them in one day = 1/x +1/3x

=> Work done by them in 30 days = 30(1/x + 1/3x)

=> 30(4/3x) = 1

=> 40/x = 1

=> x = 40.

Thus, A takes 40 days to complete the work and B takes (40×3=120) days to complete the work respectively.
